Artist Editions
One of the ways we work with and support artists from Chicago is through our Artist "Editions" program, where artists are given the resources and time to expand their vision in new ways.
This de-risks creative exploration for the artists, expands their production network while elevating their profile to new audiences, and creates an entirely new revenue stream.
Yvette Mayorga is a Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist known for her Rococo-inspired reliefs and heavy use of the color pink that merges confectionary labor with found images to explore themes of belonging. Mayorga coined the term “Latinxoco” to describe her approach, which merges Latinx identity with Rococo aesthetics.
In addition to her design takeover of the Good Chaos website, we commissioned three editions from Yvette in time for her group show “Los Encuentros” at Ballroom Marfa in Texas. One is a reversible jacket that includes repeating designs she has used in wallpaper. The second is a miniature car created to look just like the actual 1974 Nissan Datsun she painted and decorated titled “La Princesa.” The third edition is a set of 10 acrylic nails that Yvette designed in her maximalist style that can be applied to human hands.
Liz Flores is a Chicago-based painter and muralist whose artwork experiments with how the human condition -- with its interplay between emotion and memory -- can be represented abstractly. Her creations are driven by her interests in community, womanhood and Latinidad, and are greatly informed by her Cuban and Mexican heritage.
To bring the design approach from her murals to a more human-sized art form, Liz collaborated with us to design three different things: a new logo for our website, a new mural for the glass door in our offices, and also a soft tapestry that could be used as either a colorful wall-hanging or as a blanket to curl up in on the couch.
Marc Benja is a multi-modal Chicago based artist working primarily with paint, textiles and digital imagery. In the spring, Good Chaos commissioned Marc to create two pieces of art; a design to be used as the inaugural artwork for our new website, as well as the “Spacegarden” vinyl playset inspired by that artwork.
Marc envisioned something playful, colorful, and interactive—something that would let people, especially children, build their own imaginative worlds. The format was partly inspired by Paul Klee’s garden paintings, which similarly blur boundaries and invite interpretation.
