Groundwaves, an open mic and mentorship program founded by the iconic rapper Murs, cultivates new hip-hop talent and creates space for learning and experimentation. With connection and artistic development as two of its key pillars, Groundwaves builds on Chicago’s historic hip-hop roots by bringing together local rappers, producers, and audio engineers to collaborate and learn alongside one another. Good Chaos is proud to support and expand the legacy of hip-hop in its birthplace, Chicago.

Having previously conducted 14 seasons across three cities, the Groundwaves team is intentional about working in service to the community. Prior to launching Groundwaves in Chicago, Murs met with local rappers, activists, preachers, designers, professors, community leaders, and longtime Chicago creatives like the Bucket Boys to learn more about the city, its hip hop scene, and how Groundwaves could best provide support. Through 1:1 mentorship meetings, open mics, and community events, Groundwaves is shining a light on Chicago talent and equipping them with the necessary tools to continue growing. 

With an emphasis on welcoming all ages, there is intergenerational connectivity that benefits all attendees and strengthens relationships across different communities. The Groundwaves Chicago program culminates in August of 2026 in a 3-day symposium and hip-hop showcase.
