Floating Museum

Believing that artists and communities are among the most powerful engines of change we have, Good Chaos is partnering with Floating Museum, an art collective that explores the relationship between art, community, architecture, and public institutions.
For this partnership, Floating Museum is working from a foundational conviction that the entire city is a museum, and that the communities who shape it are its curators. These curators are creating inflatable monuments, mobile installations, and participatory programming all rooted in hyper-local relationships and the histories that live just beneath the surface of the built environment.
Floating Museum highlights of the 2026 season include the debut of DIGNIDAD, a new inflatable monument in Humboldt Park created in collaboration with Carla Acevedo Yates and Iván Argote; an extended run of the celebrated for Mecca at the National Public Housing Museum and across Chicago Park District sites; a STEAM-based youth educational program expanding citywide; and an installation and performance platform celebrating Chicago's legacy of amplified sound and hip-hop culture in collaboration with Groundwaves. Three Floating Monuments–for Mecca, The Garden, and Founders–were activated at Groundwaves’ GoodWaves Festival in August 2026. This is the first time that multiple Floating Monuments will be activated at the same time and at the same site!
Future activations will include a collaboration with The Anchorage to honor the cultural leadership and influence of matriarchs within Chicago’s West Side communities, as well as a collaboration with the Monument Lab.
